Bekal Beach

Attractions Around Bekal Beach

Bekal Fort is rated as the largest fort in Kasargod district of Kerala, south India. This sea facing fort stands tall on a promontory between two long classically beautiful palm fringed beaches. It's the largest and best preserved fort in Kerala. Placed on a headland that extends for 35 acres and reaches into the Arabian Sea, it occupies a commanding position on a promontory. It extends on all sides with stretches of clear sand flanked by rows of elegant palm trees. The spectacular view of green palms, white sand, blue sea and rolling waves is really breathtaking.

Covered with shrubs, the hill slopes extend down from Bekal Fort to Bekal Beach. These slopes invite intrepid explorers to climb up from Bekal Beach to rocky promontory above. A canon points out to the sea at the ramparts of Bekal Fort, reminding us of bygone era. It was the time when trading ships came to the land on Bekal Beach under protective cover of the guns. It guarded them from pirates and rival merchant ships. Another historic attraction of Bekal Beach in Kerala includes a nearby mosque built by Tipu Sultan.
