Located
at the mouth of the Chaliyar River in Kozhikode district, Beypore, was one
of the prominent ports and fishing harbours of ancient Kerala. It was an
important trade and maritime centre then. This port city of Beypore was very
much sought after by merchants from western Asia, for its ship building
industry. Its boat building yard is famous for the construction of the
traditional Arabian trading vessel named as Uru. A warm embrace of peace and

expanse of Arabian Sea. It is set 10 km south of Kozhikode and right at the

Around Beypore Beach
The stone bridge attracts a lot of tourists. It is made of huge stones
piled together to make a pathway into the sea for nearly 2 km. Another
attraction, the boat-building yard, is famous for its traditional
construction of Uru or the Arabian trading vessel. The tradition of
shipbuilding is almost 1,500 years old and the craftsmanship of the workers
here is really exceptional. Kadalundi Bird Sanctuary here is considered as a
birdwatchers paradise for housing a variety of local and migratory bird
life. Migratory birds flock here in large numbers during February-March.
Beypore Beach is also suitable for sunbath to get a bronze tan. Visitors may
also taste the local flavor of fresh seafood of Kerala from the seaside
stalls and drink a lot of cool and refreshing coconut waters.

Karipur International Airport, located around 23 km from Kozhikode town, is
