Often
referred as the 'Land's End' of India, Kanyakumari is the southern most tip
of Indian mainland. Bay of Bengal confluences with Indian Ocean and the
Arabian Sea here. Beach of Kanyakumari has some unique attractions attached
to it including Chaitrapurnima which is the Tamil name for all full moon
day, generally falling in April. You can enjoy the unique experience of
seeing the sunset on that particular day and the moon rise over the ocean
simultaneously here. You will feel as the entire ocean is washed away with a
shower of red-gold mist. Kanyakumari was so named because it is dedicated to
the Hindu deity Kanya. Myth says that she was an incarnation of the Goddess
Parvati who did a long penance to win Lord Shiva's hand in marriage but for
some reason wasn't successful. She vowed that she would remain a virgin all
her life. | Related Read : | Mahabalipuram Beach | Covelong Beach | Rameshwaram Beach |
