Seated on the thin srtip of land, sandwhiched between the Arabian Sea and
Punammada Backwaters, lies Kerala's most sought after attraction in the name
of 'Alapuzzha' or 'Alleppey'. Kerala's distinguished destination is blest
with a conscipicuous natural beauty of backwater canals that inundate the
near by lands, and is home to much famed houseboats and coir industries. The
sea forms up to be major attraction as well as sole enduring motif at

Reaching
Alapuzzha

Day One

pier, built by Captain Hugh Crawford. The Alleppey beach offers several
entertainment for children run by district Tourism Promotion Council. Go for

» Stop2:Backwaters

Only waters to be
explored, the next joint for you to hopp is backwaters in Alleppey. A
backwater cruise on Punnamada Kayal takes you along the canals past scenic
land, offering sublime view of paddy and coconut feilds, chinese fishing
nets and toddy trappers at work. You can hire the boats from Touirsts Boats,
Jetty, near the bus stand. KSRTC boats cruise the backwaters, too, upto the
village around.

After the backwater trip get ready for
discovering islands. Alappuzha's beauty is not merely its backwaters, but in
the man-made islands amidst waters. These islands are hedged by the mud
walls, a haven for migratory birds, with paddy feilds which is also a source
of water throughout the year. These feilds below the sea level. R Block is
especially famous for the fresh toddy served to guests. You could, if you
wish drop in and hang around in the toddy shop till the next boat comes.
Wait, you will have some much awaited mouth- watering dishes such as crabs,
clams, prawns, and a variety of fish that are endemic to the backwaters. And
if you wanna some fresh dip in water then R Block and QST Islands are the
best bet. Remember to contact your station master of KSWTD at the boat jetty
to hire speedboats.
Speedboats are enthralling experince at Alleppey allowing you to feel the
ancient countryside of India, that is within. End your day on a sweet note
of water memorabilia. Get back to hotel and in mid you can go for
sight-seeing and shopping all those souvenirs you planned to buy for your
family.
Day Two


It is your another day at Alleppey and dozens of attractions ready to be
explored yet. Now that you are a day old at this place, just brush your
acquiantedness with the city, standing at Bridges viewing the baotmen row
past their boats with an unmistakable graciousnes even when the traffic
hurtles above them.These man-made mansions are named as Iron, Stone and
Palace Bridges. These are the internal canals where the tourists are not
given any chance to cruise at all. These are just open during Onam Festival.
There are six navigable canals at Alleppey running parallel to each other
across the city, connecting the city to a mesh of waters. Just head straight
for water delight.
» Stop 4 : Mullackal
The fourth and wonderful stop at Alleppey is about a town that is built
around Konkani Brahmin settlement known as Mullackal, and it is in this
settlement that the Bhagavathy Temple is located. This temple has a main
festival called as Chirappu, held in December when the whole of Alappuzha is
decked with festoons and flags. A fair, with vessles and several items on
display and sale, is also organised during this time.
Eating Out At
Alleppey

This is for food afficiaonados where you can satiate your watering
taste-buds at food joints. Alappuzha's proximity to the sea and number of
canals that criss cross ensure that it gets enough of famous seafood
delicacies. Try appams and seafood and the stew at Hotel Green Corner.
Another Hotel that serves excellent vegetarian food is hotel Aaryas near
Medical vegetarian food. The Mulluckal area has good Udupi vegetarian fare.
And not to say that for true local food experince opt taste Kappa, karimeen
pollichathu, pearlsport fish baked over coals, covered in banana leaves, or
Karimeen curry. Tapioca is a staple diet of the region. And still you want
some true experince of eat out at kuttanand region where the delicacies are
served out of fresh water. Excellent bakeries are served opposite small
temple on the main street, and their fruit cake has a rich brown heavy
christmasy quality, all around the year.
