Shimla
toy train is one of the rare trains that provide fabulous train journey. It
has been in operation for more than 100 years. In its long journey journey
of over 100 years on tracks it has amused passengers and has earned their
accolades.
Inaugurated by British viceroy Lord Curzon in November 1903, Shivalik
Deluxe takes you from Kalka to Shimla, covering a distance of 96 kilometers.
The passage from Kalka to Shimla is very beautiful and exploring this scenic
beauty on a train adds color and fun to the journey. On the way, the train
passes through tunnels ( 107 in number) and lofty arched bridges.
But ironically, a 1996 decision to heavily subsidise tickets to attract
more tourists has devastated the route's finances, even though it has
brought in more visitors who like the British colonial rulers want to escape
India's sweaty summers.
Highlights of the train
