Andaman & Nicobar islands are located away from the Indian sub-continent in the Bay of Bengal. The first settlement of the British took place here during the year 1789, which was abandoned just a few years after in 1796. Later during 1858, following the first war of Indian independence, the place was made into a penal settlement for convicts, criminals and freedom fighters.
