State Overview

No North -East Indian state have been feted with such a beautiful sobriquet
- 'land of rising sun' and 'land of moonlit dawn' - other than
Arunachal Pradesh. The largest state of India is also most beauteous in
entire North-East region of India. True to its crested moniker, Arunachal
Pradesh is enshrouded with rich supplies of nature in the form of evergreen
forests, natural splendorous valleys, dominated by snow clad mountains,
through which many streams flow without barricades. Arunachal sprawls
unceasingly over an area of 83743 sq kms enriching the terrain with rare and
exotic varieties of flora and fauna, a torrent of 500 species of orchids,
white-bowed gibbons, red pandas, white winged wood duck and many more. A
pristine state with rare flushes of nature, Arunachal Pradesh is populated
with many local tribes which count upto some 1,091,117, in the entire state.
At 1890 mts above the sea level Arunachal Pradesh flaunts galore of tracks,
unspoilt environs, immense treasure trove of unique culture and tribes,
racing rapids of gorges, Buddhist monasteries and cultures that has been a

to Arunachal Pradesh
» Airways : The nearest Airport in Tezpur in Assam,
225 kms Itanagar. Besides there is regular services between Guwahati and
Naharlagun.
» Roadways : From Guwahati, one travels mostly on
NH 52 to reach Itanagar, 529 kms away . Direst buses are available from
Guwahati. A visit to the state can be divided into two regions
Bomdila-sela-Tawang region and the other region.
» Railways : Arunachal Pradesh has a convenient
railhead at North Lakhimpur in Assam, 60 kms from Itanagar. Another railway
station is Harmuty (near Banderdewa check gate) only 23 km from Naharlagun &
33 km from Itanagar.

Pradesh State Transport Corpn. Runs regular bus-services inside and outside
the state. There are very few number of non-metered taxis can be found
inside the state. For travelling inside the state Tourist deluxe buses for
group tourist can be hired from the Director, Department of Tourism, Govt.
of Arunachal Pradesh, Naharlagun. Cycle Rickshaw: Only in Naharlagun.
Charges Rs.2 to 8 depending on distances. For sight-seeing: Rs. 300 + fuel
charges for a full - day - sightseeing in and around Itanagar / Naharlagun.

» Attraction 1 : Itanagar
Hosting multitudes of tourists attractions, Itanagar has another claim to
fame- it is the capital of Arunachal Pradesh. The splendid fort attraction
from which it educes its name dates back to 14th and 15th century. Some
places like Rajbhawan, the official residence of the Governor, Jawaharlal
Nehru State Museum, the legendary Ganga Lake (Gyakar Sinyi) constitute of
other spectacles in the city.
» Attraction 2 : Bomdila
The altitudes promise you thrill and adventure at 8500 ft above the sea
level in Bomdila in Arunachal Pradesh. A rich tapestry of colourful gompas,
unvanquishable treks and passes, Monpa, Sherdukpen, Aka (Hrusse), Miji and
Begun (Khawas) tribes, Bomdila bekons to share its histories.
» Attraction 3 : Tawang
Tawang and all routes leading to the state is draped with immense natural
bounties of mountain. Tawang, a land that has a proud history of 400 years,
is an important tourist attraction of India. It was once a stronghold domain
of Tawang Dynasty, it is now an serene hilltop hamlet of monasteries and an
active Buddhist zone.
» Attraction 4 : Parashuram Kund
Parashuram Kund is a place of hitorical significance and has a strong
mythological belief attached to it. As the mythology says it Parashuram, a
great saint of India, washed his soul of committing matricide. The
Parashuram Mela attracts a number of tourist from all over India.
» Attraction 5 : Malinithan
It is a humble town excavated way back in 14th and 15th is an striking
attrction of Arunachal Pradesh. Recently a series of excavation has
unearthed a temple with embellished base and sculpture bearing quondam
animal motifs and paintings. Visit Malinitha for lacerating against its
clandestine routes and capturing the relentless beauty of Akashiganga
waterfall.
» Attraction 6 : Namdapha
With its overwhelming greenery store Arunachal Pradesh boasts of several
wildlife sanctuaries and national parks. Namdapha is just one of the
Wildlife parks that offer peculiar varieties of flora and fauna.

Shopping amidsts the byzantine lanes and mazes of Arunachal Pradesh is
altogether a memorable. All that you can fill your bags here constitutes of
arts and crafts, handicrafts, painting, pottery, wood works that virtualy
flood the market. Anyways, there is lot more, such as cups, dishes and fruit
bowls scooped out of local Monpa wood. Sherdukpen shawls, Apatani Jackets
and scarves Adi skirts, Mishmi shawls, Wancho bags Baskets and masks made of
bamboo and cane Ornaments and bangles made of beads, which you can pick up.
The Handicraft Center has bamboo and cane products, thankas, wood carvings,
