Chandigarh,
which was contrived by Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru and orchestrated by Le
Corbusier, is the pride of India. Perhaps more than any other, the dream
city of India has initiated many others to emulate its mastermind
construction. Geographically, Chandigarh is bounded by Shivalik Hills and is
a shared capital of two north Indian states viz. Punjab and Haryana.
Chandigarh, in design, is analogous to human anatomy and is a shining glory
of twentieth century urban architecture of India. It spans an area of 114 sq
kms and houses a population of 9,00,635. Owing to its consummate
geographical engineering, tree lined avenues and landscaped gardens, it is
center of attention in India. It is Chandigarh's noetic design and strategic
location, in close proximity to major hill stations of India, that poses a
challenge to man's imagination. One of the enthralments of Chandigarh is the
juxtaposition of beauty and rationality; gardens with malls and urban
culture with rural touch.
