
Bandhavgarh
National Park is comparatively small to other National Parks in India, but
it has a high game density. The park has a rich bio-diversity and one can
find a variety of carnivorous and herbivorous animals in the park. This
compact reserve is filled with Sal trees, bamboo trees etc. The park has
over 22 species of wildlife that includes the regal 'gaur', deer, and
striped hyena, jungle cat and sloth bear and over 250 species of bird.
The park is 195 kilometers away from Jabalpur in Madhya Pradesh and is one
of the important tourist attractions of Madhya Pradesh. The Park is hemmed
in by Vindhya mountains range and covers an area of about 448sq km.

Book yourself an elephant safari and lumber into the jungle. You stand good
chances of witnessing the Bengal tiger if you are on elephant's back.
Besides the tiger, you can spot animal species including chital, chinkara,
wild boar, jackal, fox, nilgai, sloth bear and chausingha among others.
If you are a birdwatcher, you have an interesting avian world to explore.
Bandhavgarh Park is home to around 150 bird species. Commonly spotted bird
species in Bandhavgarh Sanctuary include teal, sarus crane, black ibis,
warblers, kingfisher, white-eyed buzzard, Egyptian vultures etc.
Wildlife Safaris in Bandhavgarh

Both the options of elephant safari and jeep safari are available for you
in Bandhavgarh. It's up to you which safari you prefer to enjoy. And you can
also choose to take your four-wheeler into the park. However, you need to be
accompanied by an authorised guide provided by the forest department of
Bandhavgarh National Park. Early mornings and afternoons are preferable to
enjoy wildlife safaris into the dense jungle of Bandhavgarh Park.

Bandhavgarh Fort : Overlooking the park, Bandhavgarh Fort gives a
panaromic view of the surroundings. Rising 800 m high in the sky, this
majestic fort was built by Maharajas of Rewa.
Temples : On the way to Bandhavgarh Fort, there are numerous
temples. Rock-cut statue in one of the temples is really marvellous.
How to reach Bandhavgarh

Bandhavgarh is almost at a same distance from Jabalpur and Khajuraho. One
can take any of the route to reach Bandhavgarh. There is no direct rail
connection to Bandhavgarh. The nearest railhead is katni, 120 kilometers
away from Bandhavgarh. The nearest airports are at Khajuraho and Jabalpur.
