
Named
after the fearless hunter Jim Corbett, Corbett National Park is famous for
its myriad fauna and flora. Blessed with a varied climate, it sustains a
huge collection of leopards, tigers, elephants etc.Nestled in the foothills
of Himalayas, the park is major
attraction for nature lovers. Flat valleys
interpersed with ridges, and little forest streams tumbling through the
ravines, add to the beauty and music at Corbett Park.
Nurtured by Ram nagar river and rolling grasslands known as chaurs, the
wild species at Corbett seem to have no worries of existence.
Amidst the varied topography, teems wildlife of splendid beauty that
include wild cats, langurs, jackals, foxes, reptiles, birds etc. Project
Tiger, that most ambitious of conservation projects aimed at saving the
Indian 'panther tigress' was inaugurated here on April 1st, 1973.
Wildlife Attractions in Corbett

The national park shelters a number of animal and bird species in
India. While on a
trip to Corbett, you can watch four kinds of deer, Bengal tiger, wild boar,
sloth bear etc. You can also spot nocturnal cats including Jungle cat,
fishing cat and leopard cat; these cats can be mostly seen in the hilly
areas of the park. Moving towards the southern area of the Corbett National
Park, you can see wild dog and jackal. Get to the banks of the Ramganga
River and you'll be able to watch fish-eating gharial crocodile and magar
crocodile.
Smaller inmates of the Corbett Wildlife Sanctuary include Himalayan palm
civet, Indian gray mongoose, common otter, blacknaped hare and porcupine.
Elephants are surely a big attraction for wildlife lovers in the park. To
whichever part of the Corbett Park you are headed, you'll see a good number
of langurs and rhesus monkeys.
Wildlife Safaris in Corbett

A number of wildlife safaris are available for you in Corbett. Jeep safari
and elephant safari are famous wildlife safaris in the national park. If you
are interested in tracking the tiger, you should go for elephant safari.
However, jeep safari is the best option to explore the park from safe
confines.
How to reach Corbett National Park

The park is connected to other places by air, rail and road. The nearest
airport to Corbett National Park is Phoolbagh, Pantnagar which is at a
distance of 50 km. The nearest international airport is at Delhi which is at
a distance of 300 km from Corbett. The nearest railway station is at Ram
nagar from where road transport options have to be availed to reach the
park. Dhikala is 300 km from Delhi, 145 km from Lucknow and 51 km from Ram
nagar. The route from Delhi spans Hapur-Murababad-Ram nagar. The turn off is
some 7 km beyond Murababad to the left, marked by a small board. The route
from Lucknow spans Bareilly-Kichha-Rudrapur-Doraha-Kashipur.
